Issue/Introduction

Then trying to open an IT Analytics report, the error "The requested name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found" occurs.

In the Console:

Server Error in '/Altiris/ITAnalytics' Application.

The requested name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found

In the Altiris logs:

A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running.

Cause

The SQL Server Analysis Server and/or Report Server were deleted, renamed, or, the Symantec_CMDB Altiris database was moved to a different SQL Server that no longer has access to the Analysis and Report Severs previously used, or, the Analysis and/or Report Server is not running/functional.

Resolution

Change IT Analytics Configuration to access a valid Analysis and Report Server.

  1. In the Symantec Management Platform Console, click on the Settings button > All Settings > Notification Server > IT Analytics Settings.
  2. Click on Configuration.
  3. If the page does not open, such as if a second error appears, "The remote name could not be resolved: '<server-name>'", the IT Analytics configuration must first be reset in SQL. Refer to the following article on how to do this:

Error "The remote name could not be resolved" occurs when trying to access IT Analytics Configuration
    https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article?legacyId=TECH186827

  4. After the IT Analytics Configuration in SQL is reset (KB TECH186827), the user should then be able to access IT Analytics Configuration to enter valid Analysis and Report Server data. which should then resolve this error.
