Issue/Introduction

An Internet Explorer Script Error window displays after clicking the Start link in the Services Control Panel to start the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) Webserver service. This behavior occurs directly after restoring a Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) database on a SEPM with Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) compliance enabled and running the Management Server Configuration Wizard (MSCW) to reconfigure the SEPM.

An Internet Explorer Script Error window is displayed stating:

An error has occurred in the script on this page

Line: 1

Char: 1

Code: 0

URL: res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\mmcndmgr.dll/views.htm

Cause

The Services Control Panel does not update the state information for any services that are stopped/started by another process until the next time it is open, or manually refreshed. This behavior occurs because the SEPM Webserver service is started by the MSCW while the Services Control Panel is still open and the state information for the SEPM Webserver service is not updated.

Resolution

This error can be safely ignored as the SEPM Webserver service is already started. To confirm this, click the Refresh button or close and re open the Services Control Panel.
