This article describes some instability issues between the PGP Desktop client software and Microsoft Application Virtualization 4.5 or 4.6.
Microsoft App-V (MS App-V) client fails to start, and may intermittently cause Windows system instability.
Some systems may encounter intermittent Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) issues, that may cause irreparable problems to the system.
The following are errors that have been observed on systems with this incompatibility between PGP Desktop and MS App-V:
Could not start the Application Virtualization Client service on Local Computer.
Error 1114: A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.
System instability issues could also occur ranging from the MS App-V client not launching properly, errors reported for MS App-V in logging and BSOD issues.
PGP Desktop 10.2.1 MP3 and above has been tested and works properly with MS App-V 4.6 SP1 (184.108.40.2063). Older PGP Desktop client versions are not recommended, due to some other observed incompatibility issues. To allow Microsoft App-V client and PGP Desktop to work on the same system, installing the MS App-V version 4.6 SP1 client before installing the PGP Desktop software may be necessary.
It may also be necessary to first uninstall the previous versions of MS App-V and PGP Desktop client software before installing the new version of MS App-V 4.6 SP1 in order to attain stable system performance.
Once the new App-V 4.6 SP1 software has been installed, reboot the system before installing the PGP Desktop client software.
After following this installation order, the system will then function properly.
Windows XP SP3 x86, Windows 7 SP1 32-bit, and Windows 7 64-bit.
PGP Desktop client software 10.2.0 through 10.2.1 MP3
Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) 4.5 or 4.6.
Based on current findings, the system does not need to be encrypted with PGP Whole Disk Encryption to encounter these issues with versions prior to MS App-V 4.6 SP1.
