RPC clients have been added to the list of registered clients in the Symantec Protection Engine or Symantec Scan Engine configuration page.
Also “netstat” shows an established connection between the server(s) and the NAS device(s), however the error "no RPC clients are currently configured or connected" is shown in the Reports, Resources page of the Symantec product configuration page.
There is no access through the CIFS protocol from the Windows server to the NAS shared folders for the user used to launch the Symantec Protection Engine or Symantec Scan Engine service. Access to the UNC path is a requirement for registration of the RPC client to be fully completed and for Symantec Scan Engine or Symantec Protection Engine to be able to access the files for scanning.
Make sure the user used to launch the Symantec Protection Engine or Symantec Scan Engine service has access to the UNC path of all the shared folders the Symantec product should scan.
(A) You can check what account is used to launch the service in the LogOn tab of the properties of the Symantec Protection Engine or Symantec Scan Engine service listed in Microsoft Services snap-in.
(B) You can check whether there is CIFS access to the share by accessing the UNC path from Windows Explorer. The UNC path is in the form \\<NAS_IP_address>\<Shared_folder_name>. Make sure you are accessing the UNC path with the same credentials used at point (A) by either logging in Windows with that account; or mapping a Shared Folder in My Computer and choosing to access with different credentials than the ones used to log in Windows.
If you receive an error accessing the Shared Folder, please review the NAS device configuration to allow access for that host and account to all the Shared Folders you want Symantec Protection Engine or Symantec Scan Engine to protect.
