About Web Protection Features in Symantec Mobile Security 7.2
Last Updated June 06, 2013
Known-malicious Web pages are blocked by default when using the Android browser. How can administrators and end users disable and enable the Web Protection features in Symantec Mobile Security 7.2 (SMS 7.2)? Are any logs available?
Note that Web protection functions on the Android browser only. If another browser is installed on the device, web protection will not examine its use.
This protection can be enabled or disabled from the Android device or by policy from the Symantec Management Platform (SMP) server. By default, the policy allows the device owner to manage their own settings. Administrators can choose to lock this feature (enabling or disabling web protection, and then preventing end users from disabling or enabling web protection).
On the Symantec Management Console, go to Home > Mobile Security > Device Management > Default AndroidSecurityPolicy. Web Protection options can be configured on the Security tab.
Verdicts for web sites are calculated automatically by Symantec. It is not possible for administrators to customize the list of blocked and unblocked web sites from the server.
Logs of web protection events can be seen in the SMC. Go to Home > Mobile Security > Overview and Reports > Web Protection. It is also possible to drill down into the logs from each Android client and view its web protection events in detail.
