Applications hosted on SMB shares launch slower when Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 is installed

Applications hosted on SMB shares launch slower when Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 is installed. A review of packet capture data shows the file is being read multiple times. The multiple reads do not occur when Symantec Endpoint Protection is uninstalled. A determination is made that the application is launching normally after the SMB reads are completed.
File reputation technology was added to Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1. Implementing this technology for applications hosted on SMB shares requires the SEP client to perform additional read operations against the file.
In most cases the extra reads do not result in significant delay. In cases where the delay creates a problem the application may be run locally as a workaround.
