FEATURE REQUEST: Non-recursive re-encryption of PGP Netshare folders
Last Updated April 22, 2013
When using Symantec Encryption Desktop (former PGP Desktop) with File Share (former Netshare) feature and wide complex folder structures with sophisticated file permission policies (where different permissions inside the same top-level NetShare Directory may exist) you may require non-recursive re-encryption of folders inside of secured folder.
Currently PGP permissions on secured folder applied recursively and inherited from the parent folder.
This feature request would improve the folder encryption providing an option for non-recursive re-encryption (this may introduce a special command line switch for pgpnetshare.exe or a special GUI option)
Symantec Corporation is committed to product quality and satisfied customers. This Feature Request is currently being considered by Symantec Corporation to be addressed in a forthcoming version of the product.
Technical Support filed a Feature Request to add this product feature. Note that an feature request is exactly that, a request.
There is no committed date for this request from the Endpoint Encryption Product Management team, nor from the Endpoint Encryption Engineering team at this time.
Please be sure to refer back to this document periodically as any changes to the status of the request will be reflected here.
The following is a known temporary workaround for the issue until the version with requested feature is not released:
Use flat folder structures with less complex permissions when securing the directory.
Symantec File share from Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.x
PGP Netshare form PGP Desktop 10.2.x
