"Error 1310. Error writing to file C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Encryption Clients\RemovableStorageMgmtService.exe" during upgrade/uninstall of SEE RS
Last Updated May 13, 2015
While attempt to upgrade an SEE RS client, the error mentioned appears and the process fails.
"Error 1310. Error writing to file C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Encryption Clients\RemoveableStorageMgmtService.exe. Verify that you have access to that directory."
This issue can occur when the SEE RS Protection driver is does not allow modifications to the protected registry keys during upgrade or uninstallation. Normally this is taken care of by the install but in some cases this does not occur as expected.
Perform the following before attempting the upgrade/uninstall:
1. We need to manually go to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\GEProtection"
and delete this registry entry and reboot the machine.
2. After reboot we need to delete "c:\windows\systems32\driver\GEProtFltr.sys".
Now the upgrade/uninstall should complete as expected.
