KNOWN LIMITATIONS in using Symantec Workspace Virtualization with Citrix XenApp Application Delivery Solutions
Last Updated March 26, 2014
This article points out best practices and known limitations in using Symantec Workspace Virtualization in a Citrix XenApp Terminal Server.
Symantec Workspace Virtualization can be effectively used on XenApp servers. It is supported provided the customer has purchased the concurrent user license for Workspace Virtualization or Workspace Streaming.
When running virtual apps on XenApp servers it is important to keep the following constraints in mind.
Each application that is activated will be activated for every user accessing the XenApp server. There is no way to activate layers on a per-user basis.
The number of active layers on a server is a product of the total number of users times the total number of virtualized apps.
The more active virtualized apps (aka layers) on a server the more server performance will be impacted.
Therefore Symantec recommends customers only virtualize applications on XenApp that absolutely require virtualization. Apps that require virtualization include but are not limited to apps with known conflicts or legacy plugin dependencies. As a general rule Symantec does not recommend that you virtualize all apps in a XenApp Application Delivery Solution environment.
