When attempting to install Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.0MP2 or later on Ubuntu 12.04.2, the installation is unsuccessful.

Ubuntu 12.04.2 uses Linux kernel version 3.5 when installed cleanly. Because Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.0MP1 is written for Linux kernel version 3.2 and runs as a kernel module, it is not compatible with kernel version 3.5.
Use Ubuntu 12.04.1 (or 12.04.0), which uses Linux kernel version 3.2.
(If you have upgraded to 12.04.2 from a 12.04.1 or 12.04.0, it is possible that your kernel version was not upgraded - in that case Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.0MP1 will install and be usable. You can check the kernel version from terminal with the command "uname -r" .)
It is likely that future versions of Symantec Encryption will support a newer kernel version, so watch the release notes of future versions to see when this kernel is added.
