Resource Association Diagram using Tree Hierarchy does not show all expected associations
Last Updated September 04, 2013
When using the Resource Association Diagram (RAD) set to use Tree Hierarchy, not all associations are shown. For example:
A user is being viewed in the RAD.
The user has three computers assigned to them (they are the computer's Asset Owner).
Two computers have an Active Status, the third is Retired.
When viewed in RAD, only the first computer on the left shows an association to the Active item, the other that is Active does not point to this. The Retired computer, however, is pointed to the Retired item.
The expectation is that both Active computers point to the Active item.
There is no issue, this is working as designed. The RAD window states this, but not perhaps in the best terminology:
"Cyclic associations have been detected and are being hidden for this diagram mode."
The term "cyclic" refers to "recurring" in this message. Therefore, recurring or extra or subsequence associations, such as more than one computer listed as Active, will not be shown.
Use a different view type, not Tree Hierarchy, to view more than one item for an association type.
