Issue/Introduction

The following error is observed when trying to import WinPE files into the boot image using boot disk creator:

Missing operating system files

Environment

Deployment Solution 6.9 SP6

Ghost Solution Suite 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3

Ghost Standard Tools

WinPE 4.0, 5.x, 10, 11

Cause

Boot Disk Creator is not able to mount the WinPE image files due to any of the following conditions:

  • The service account does not have the "Manage auditing and security log" USER RIGHTS ASSIGNMENT.
  • If GPOs are blocking files to the TEMP folder and adding rights doesn't work, then run the Boot Disc Creator with the client not connected to the domain.
  • Antivirus programs could be responsible for blocking files, disable until the preboot disc is created.

Resolution

Grant proper permissions to the service account on the server.

Disable Antivirus temporarily if installed. This issue is known to be caused by McAfee, WebRoot, and Microsoft Security Essentials, but could be caused by any Anti Virus or Intrusion Protection software, depending on the configuration.

Remove computer from Domain and run gpudate /force command twice
