Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to modify the notification settings in the SMSMSE console under Policies -> Exceptions, changes deploy successfully, but settings immediately revert to default when the console view refreshes.

The issue does not generate any visible errors within the user interface or within logs. Deploying Changes results in a "Success" message.

Cause

An API used in the submission process for notification changes is not correctly modifying registry values within the product.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in SMSMSE 7.5.1. Upgrade to 7.5.1 to resolve this issue.

Workaround

If an upgrade to 7.5.1 is not currently feasible, a hotfix has been created to resolve this issue.

Please perform the following steps to apply the hotfix:

  1. Download the Hotfix_3510554.zip attachment below.
  2. Exact contents of hotfix archive into a temporary location.
  3. Stop the Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) services
  4. Navigate to <Install Path>\SMSMSE\7.5\Server
  5. Locate & Backup the files  SAVFMSEShared.dll & SAVFMSEShared64.dll
  6. Place the two extracted files from the hotfix archive into <Install Path>\SMSMSE\7.5\Server
  7. Start the Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) services

Once the hotfix is applied modifications to the Email Notification values within Policies>Exceptions can now be applied.
