Microsoft Update: MSWU-933-KB2953593 continually reinstalls with failure.
Last Updated May 29, 2014
Patch Management continually targets for IsApplicable on MSWU-933-KB2953593.
Exit Code 0 (no failure Exit Code)
Found the STPatchAssessment.xml is targeting properly. The update MSWU-933-Lync2010x64-KB2953593.msp is vulnerable in this reviewed instance; however, when looking at the Software Update package, found that the update properties are for the old MSWU-877-KB2912208.
This issue appears to have been caused by corrupt resource associations between the Software Update Policy and the Software Update Package on the SMP; deploying the proper name of the update to the client, but the package remained to be the older version.
Note: MSWU-877-KB2912208 was superseded by MSWU-933-KB2953593.
Work through the following to clean up the package resources on the SMP and affected Client(s):
Open the Patch Remediation Center (PRC) on the Console > Actions > Software
Highlight MSWU-933 > right-click > Disable
Highlight MSWU-877 > right-click > Disable
Expand the Microsoft Folder in the PRC Console left pane tree
Disable the Software Update Policy for MSWU-933 and MSWU-877
Located under the Policies > Software > Patch Management structure; a couple folders above the PRC
Delete the physical package from the Software Update storage location on the SMP
Location defined on Console > Settings > All Settings > Software > Patch Management > Core Services
Run 'Complete' Import Patch Data for Windows
Disable the 'Incremental download' setting
Schedule to run or run 'Now'
Once PMImport is complete; work through the following:
Go to the PRC > highlight MSWU-933 > right-click > Distribute
Work through the process to recreate the Software Update Package and Policy
Confirm the properties of the package show for MSWU-933-KB2953593
Note: Running Revise Software Update Task on the PMImport should resolve this issue, but in this instance; the environment had a stale PMImport Revisory due to performance issues. Revise Software Update Task is outlined further on KM: TECH40390
Advisory: This resolution was found for one environment. If this resolution is worked through completely, and the issue remains; please contact the Support Team for additional rule review.
