Issue/Introduction

Symantec Installation Manager throws the error while installing on Windows 2012 R2 Datacenter, Standard etc..

Description:

When installing SIM with the same component error message is thrown and the installation is interrupted.

 

 Error message:

Symantec Installation Manager Setup wizard ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run Setup wizard again.

Cause

 Windows server 2012 R2 requires additional feature.

Resolution

Symantec Installation Manager can be installed on Windows 2012 R2 however it require below addition feature.

These features can be added from Server Roles.

  1. .Net FrameWork 3.5 Features
    • .NET Framework 3.5 ( includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)

      .
  2. .NET Framework 4.5 Features
    • .NET Framework 4.5 

Note:

.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is a prerequisite for the installation of Symantec Installation Manager, if for some reason .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 can't be installed, you may want to take a look at the following Microsoft article for a fix on failures on installing .NET 3.5:

Customers who receive and install update 3005628 from Microsoft Update channels do not have to take any additional action. Individual customers or IT professionals who decide to run update 3005628 manually or within their managed environments should refer to the "Download information" and "Command-line switches for this update" sections for more information.

Then install .NET 3.5 from Add roles and features.
