Issue/Introduction

During a new DLP v10 install you attempt to browse to the license file (<filename>.slf) and receive an error message about the License file being corrupt.

This can also happen when trying to add a new SLF to an existing installation, either to extend the expiration or add newly purchased functionality to the Enforce Server.

In currently supported versions, the error message says:

"License file corrupt or improperly signed."

"Some of the specified settings were invalid."

Cause

This can occur for a few reasons.

Resolution

Most common cause:

When moving .slf files to the server, you need to preserve the original file exactly.  Any changes, even a space in the file can cause issues.

There's a hash of the file contents in the file.  If the .slf file contents change at all, it will not match the hash, which will make the license import fail.

A good way to preserve the original .slf file is to zip the license files, then move the .zip to the server and extract to a local directory.  Then you should be able to start the install and browse to the .slf file.

Additional Information

There is a second issue which is happening currently, specifically in regard to license files generated in concert with a PLA. If you receive this error for a newly downloaded SLF file, please open a case with Technical Support.
