Print/fax jobs are not blocked by file metadata (type/size/name)
Last Updated April 30, 2018
You have configured a policy with a Message Attachment or File Name Match detection rule, and it is active on the endpoint agent, but the agent does not generate incidents when you print a file with a name that matches the rule.
Print/fax jobs cannot currently be blocked based on the file name, size or type except for PDF. This is because the original file name is not always reported directly to the agent by the print driver.
We capture the text being printed in this case and do not send any file for scanning. We perform a file scan in case of adobe reader application and hence it works for PDF. This is a known behavior for print/fax.
Symantec recommends that you create policies to block print jobs based on the contents of the file, instead of its name or other meta data.
