Issue/Introduction

The troubleshooting focus of an Oracle database/application issue has narrowed to an intervening firewall.  Is there a list of firewall settings that should be examined?

Resolution

Oracle recommends taking a long, hard look at the following firewall feartures, then telling your network administrator to disable them:

- SQLNet fixup protocol
- Deep Packet Inspection (DPI)
- SQLNet packet inspection
- SQL Fixup
- SQL ALG (Juniper firewall)

As mentioned in Oracle support note 1130523.1, some of these settings may adversely impact SQL packets transported across firewalls.
