When using Symantec Encryption Desktop (formerly PGP Desktop) you may be unable to send/receive emails through PGP when Kaspersky antivirus is running
3 Antivirus modules from Kaspersky (E-Mail Protection, Web Protection and Banner Protection) are blocking access from PGP to remote mail server (in this case PGP reports to mail client that access to email is denied). Therefore if one of above modules is active the email cannot be proxied through PGP.
In order to restore mail flow please create an exception in Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 R2 for Windows Workstations, following steps below:
Launch Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations
Right click on Kaspersky Anti-Virus icon and select Settings item or use respective item in main menu of Kaspersky Anti-Virus GUI
Click on "Trusted zone..." on "Protection" screen
When new window appear, select tab "Trusted applications" and press "Add... button"
In dialog window select "Browse..."
Then select either PGPTray from the list of application if PGP Services already running or select menu item "Browse" and find PGPTray.exe location on your computer using file dialog
When application is selected, in Action section set "Do not check network traffic" item and clear all other checkboxes
Selected action will appear in section "Description". You can either leave them as is (it will simplify further mail server management in case of new mail providers) or provide IP addresses of email servers by providing list of ip changing "any remote host" to "selected remote host" and clicking at "specify".
Afterworlds click OK button
Apply settings by clicking "Apply" and then "OK" button
With PGPTray.exe in "Trusted zone" email will be send and delivered without a problem.
Alternatively you may update antivirus software as the Kaspersky Endpoint Security 10 for Windows (for workstations) is not affected by this problem. According to http://support.kaspersky.com/10930 Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 R2 for Windows Workstations (188.8.131.521 Maintenance Pack 4 Critical Fix 2) is fully supported until October 31, 2014. rom November 1, 2014 to December 31, 2015, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 R2 for Windows Workstations (184.108.40.2061 Maintenance Pack 4 Critical Fix 2) will have the Limited support status.
