Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange

Issue/Introduction

When changing scan settings on a manual or scheduled scan Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) fails to display the list of public folders or mailboxes when the Exchange WebService (EWS) URL is returned incorrectly from Exchange AutoDiscover.

Conditions

The URL contained in the registry key used by SMSMSE to define the Exchange Web Services URL is either missing or incorrect.

Registry key locations:

7.5.6 and earlier: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Symantec\<version>\Server\ExchangeWebserviceURL

7.9 and later: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec\SMSMSE\<version>\Server\ExchangeWebserviceURL

Cause

Exchange Auto-Discover is either returning an improper Client Access Server (CAS) URL, or is not responding to the request for the CAS URL.

Resolution

Note: Auto-Discover queries can only be disabled in SMSMSE 7.0.3 and later

Disable the AutoDiscover query and manually enter the appropriate CAS URL.

To disable the Exchange Auto-Discover Query and manually enter the appropriate CAS URL

  1. Open the Registry Editor (Start -> Run, regedit).
  2. Navigate to one of the following registry keys
    For 7.5.6 and earlier: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Symantec\<version>\Server
    For 7.9 and later: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec\SMSMSE\<version>\Server
  3. Create a new DWORD value called "SJMAutoDiscoverTimeOutSeconds" (case sensitive).
  4. Set the value to 0.
  5. Locate the value ExchangeWebserviceURL and modify the value to reflect the appropriate CAS server used by this Mailbox server for Exchange Web Services, then exit the registry editor.
The format for this entry is https://<FQDN of CAS Server>/EWS/Exchange.asmx. For example: https://server2008r2.exchange2010.internal/EWS/Exchange.asmx
  6. Restart the Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange and Symantec Mail Security Utility services.
