Issue/Introduction

SPSS is installed on all Web Front End or Central Admin servers in Sharepoint Server Farm. The SPSS system logs on the Central Administration Server become full of errors indicating that it cannot contact all SPSS nodes.

"A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond : A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond"

"A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond"

Cause

This issue may indicate that the SPSS service is not responding on one of the SPSS nodes. However, the Server Farm may also contain one or more servers that do not require SPSS to be installed such as Application, SQL, SMTP or Indexing servers. SPSS will assume that SPSS is present on these servers and will attempt to contact them.

Resolution

These errors are not serious and can be ignored. Setting a lower Log storage time will delete log files if they are getting too large.

Symantec is aware of this issue and are planning to modify this behaviour in future release. Please subscribe to this KB for updates.
