Issue/Introduction

The language packs have been uninstalled, but the foreign language is still displayed in the browser.

Steps to duplicate:
1. Install the SMP Languages pack via SIM under the Additional components if it is not installed already.
2. Set IE to use German first, for example, and then English. The SMP console displayed German.
3. Uninstall the language pack from the SMP server via SIM (since it is an additional component, you will need to use "Control+Shift+o" within SIM to be able to remove it).
4. With IE still set to German as the primary language, The console still shows the language in German even though the language packs were uninstalled.

Environment

SMP 7.1 SP2 MP1 and later SMP 7.5 and later

Cause

Known issue. We don't remove the localization strings that were added into the Console. If you right-click>view as xml on any item from the left-tree view pane, you will see the multiple language entries still present.

Resolution

This issue has been reported to the Symantec Development team. At this point (at the ITMS 7.5 release) there are not plans to change this behavior.

There is a simple workaround that can be used. Basically we can use a rule from the Microsoft module called URL Rewrite. Please see the attached document for references in how to setup this.

Starting from ITMS 7.6, you can use the OverrideCulture setting to override the language that is used in the Symantec Management Console.
You can change this setting in NS Configurator, at Core Settings > User Interface > OverrideCulture.

The NS Configurator is located on Notification Server, at the following path:
<installation_path>\Altiris\Notification Server\Bin\Tools\NSConfigurator.exe
