Symantec Mobile Management (SMM) is an "add-on" product to the Symantec Management Platform (SMP). It is often deployed in environments that also run the Symantec ITMS Suite, which also depends on the Symantec Management Platform. Once SMM is installed, a Mobile Management site-server (MMS) must also be deployed from within the console.
Certain customers may have decided to deploy the Symantec ITMS suite and Symantec Mobile Management with the Mobile-Management site-server, all on the same Windows Server. This configuration may result in device synchronization problems for the Symantec Mobile Management product.
If ITMS+SMM and the MMS servers are deployed to the same server, you may experience an error in IIS when the device checks in.
IIS trace logs will report an HTTP 500.21
Configuration settings for WebDAV for ITMS products cause a problem for the Mobile Management Server iOS device synchronization calls in IIS.
Symantec supports installation of Symantec ITMS and Symantec Mobile Management, through Symantec Installation Manager, on the same Windows Server. Deployment of the Mobile Management Site-Server must be on separate server. The installation of Symantec ITMS and the Mobile Management Site-Server cannot coexist as the same server.
Symantec recommends installing ITMS and Symantec Mobile Management to an internal server that meets pre-requisite criteria. Once configured, deployment of the Mobile Management Site-Server should be targeted to a separate server designed to be device-facing.
