Messaging Gateway sends alerts for failure to detect CPU internal temperature

Issue/Introduction

Messaging Gateway (SMG) sends a Hardware Failure alert for a CPU temperature condition but reviewing the logs shows that a high temperature condition has not been recorded. Instead, the recorded temperature is displayed as "Unknown" in the messages log.

Environment

SMG 8340 / Dell R210-II hardware
SMG 8340 / Dell R230 hardware

Cause

The tool used to detect the planar CPU temperature is returning an unexpected or empty value rather than the CPU temperature.

 

Resolution

This issue was addressed for the Dell R210-II hardware model but has reoccurred on the Dell R230 hardware model.

The false positive alerts are currently under investigation by the SMG product engineering team.
