Ghost is not correctly finding the next image span file when restoring from a split image stored on external media
Last Updated December 09, 2015
An attempt is made trying to restore image files saved in DVDs with Ghost version 220.127.116.1182.
1. Following message appears when restore of 1st DVD is finished. --- Span Volume Done (1660) Symantec Ghost needs to open the next part of the image. Please either insert the next disk and choose OK, or choose Browse to select the next part of the image. [OK] [Cancel] [Browse] ---
2. Insert 2nd DVD and click [OK]. Then following Error message appears. --- Error Cannot open image file F:\[imagename]003.ghs [Win32 error:(0x00000002) Message description : The system cannot find the file specified.](10010) [OK]
In short, Ghost is still searching for the span file it just completed laying down, rather than the next span file in the list. In the above scenario, the 4th span file had completed, and after inserting the DVD for the next file, it still is looking for the 4th span file [imagename]003.ghs.
(Ghost span files are listed as [imagename].gho, [imagename]001.ghs, [imagename]002.ghs -- meaning the [imagename]003.ghs is the 4th span file)
This causes Ghost to be unable to proceed.
Cannot open image file F:\[imagename]0xx.ghs [Win32 error:(0x00000002) Message description : The system cannot find the file specified.](10010)
This was a bug in how Ghost was handling the span file detection procedure.
This issue has been corrected in Ghost build version 18.104.22.16857 or in DS 7.6 HF7.
We cannot host this file on this KB due to licensing, and is available upon request of support if upgrading to DS 7.6 HF7 is not possible.
