Matching attachment types may fail when scanning password-protected ZIP attachments
Last Updated April 01, 2016
In Messaging Gateway, when scanning password protected zip file attachments with content filtering, rules written against specific file attachment types may not fire depending on how many files are included in the password protected zip file.
If the password protected zip contains a single file, content filtering rules against that file type will fire.
If the password protected zip contains multiple files, content filtering rules may not match files in the archive
Since the password protected zip file cannot be opened due to the password protection, Messaging Gateway can only see the filename of the first attachment in the archive.
This is a known issue with filtering attachment file types which are encapsulated in password protected archives and is currently being reviewed by Symantec.
