After migrating to an updated version of a Symantec antivirus product such as Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) or Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition (SEP SBE), third party VPN or Network Access Control (NAC) software compliance checks fail.
Many VPN and NAC solutions come with pre-configured rules to check for the presence of known antivirus products before allowing clients to connect to network resources. Depending on how these checks are implemented, some of them may not immediately recognize a newly released version of the Symantec product.
Symantec cannot ensure that third party vendors will maintain compatibility in a timely fashion. The vendor of the VPN or NAC solution will typically need to release an update to their software to account for new versions of Endpoint Protection.
In many cases it is possible for administrators of Enterprise NAC or VPN solutions to write custom compliance rules that may be able to work around the lack of a pre-built rule, however this varies by solution. If a workaround is needed, engage the vendor of the solution directly for assistance and to check on the status of pending software updates.
