Endpoint Protection (SEP) installer or other Symantec tools may fail to run on macOS 10.12 "Sierra" or newer, with various errors.
Symantec Endpoint Protection
macOS 10.12 "Sierra" or newer
Possible errors all with same general cause.
"... cannot be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. macOS cannot verify that this app is free from malware."
When performing a normal installation:
"Install Failed: Invalid Symantec Endpoint Protection Package
Please make sure latest package is downloaded to /Users/[username]/Downloads"
When using the Installer's Tools menu->Create remote deployment package:
"Remote deployment package creation closing
Error creating package. Refer to console log for details."
"It seems like something went wrong with the installation of the product"
This may be caused by a macOS security feature that assigns extended attributes any file that has been downloaded from a network site.
Control-Right Click and choose "Open". The same error(s) may appear, but this time with an "Open" button that will continue execution. Once run, there should be no further prompts for that file.
Remove the extended attributes from the affected files with command line "xattr -rc /path/to/file(s)" and re-try.
