When joining a cluster member to an Encryption Management Server that has a large database it may be necessary to carry out a manual cluster join rather than use the web based administration console.
If the backups listed under System / Backups in the web based administration console of the sponsor node are larger than 2 GB then a manual cluster join may be required.
Encryption Management Server 3.3 and above.
PGP Universal Server 3.x
The web based administration console uses the standard replication service to copy the database from the sponsor cluster node to the joiner. The replication service is designed to copy changes between cluster members.
However, adding a cluster node to an existing Encryption Management Server requires that the whole database be copied. The replication service may not be the best way of accomplishing this if the database is relatively large.
The steps in a manual cluster join are as follows:
The whole database is backed up to a single backup file on the sponsor node.
The backup file is manually uploaded to the joiner node using SCP (Secure Copy Protocol).
The database is restored on the joiner node.
