Resolution

Troubleshooting test email failures

Endpoint Protection Manager logs email errors to the scm-ui*.err log files, which are useful when you troubleshoot test email failures.

These log files are located in the temporary directory of the currently logged on user. For example, when you log on as an "Administrator" on Windows Server 2012 R2, the log files are located in C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp.

To view the scm-ui*.err log:

  1. Click Start > Run.
  2. In the command prompt type %temp%
  3. Click OK.
  4. In the temp folder, sort the files by the last modified date.
  5. Look for recently modified files where the file name begins with scm-ui and the file extension is .err.
  6. Open the most recent log file in a text editor such as Notepad, and scroll to the bottom.
The file names contain a timestamp you can use to determine the most recent file.
  7. Review the errors for help identifying the cause of the failure.
Endpoint Protection Manager logs errors at the STDERR error level.
