Endpoint Protection

Issue/Introduction

Due to a previous installation attempt, the Symantec Endpoint Protection for Linux (SEPFL) installer returns the following error message:

Starting to install Symantec Endpoint Protection for Linux
Downgrade is not supported. Please make sure the target version is newer than the original one

This error happens even when installing the same version of SEPFL.

"Downgrade is not supported. Please make sure the target version is newer than the original one"

Environment

  • Centos 7
    • error after trying to reinstall SEP

Cause

The SEPFL installer copies temporary files into /etc/symantec/sep, but does not remove the files if the installation fails.
The presence of these files will cause future installations to fail even though the version is a match.

Resolution

  • Backup and delete the contents of /etc/symantec/sep.
  • Perform the installation again
