In Intelligence Center, how can you create a top hosts report on a custom application?
To create top hosts report on a custom application, you first need to create an application in IC which represents the class in question. For example, say you need to create a report of top hosts on the P2P class that you created on your Packetshaper. Assume this class (P2P) contains child classes, which represent specific P2P application such as Kaza, Bittorent, and edonkey. To accomplish this:
Click on the Configure tab.
Click on Applications link at the top.
Click the 'Add'button at the bottom left section.
Provide any name that represents your custom class P2P (ex: P2P); adding a description is optional.
To include the child classes, use one of the following methods:
At ‘Included Traffic Classes,’ select the ‘Add’ link, then drag and drop all applications representing the specific P2P traffic from the left window to this window. Due to discovery, there might be continuous discovery of new child classes in P2P class on the Packetshaper. In that case, you will not want to use this option.
At the ‘All paths ending with’ option, click on the ‘Path contains’ option, then type in the part of the class name that remains consistent in every traffic flow of P2P. For example: P2P. Keep the ‘Both Directions’ option selected.
Click the “Save” button at the bottom to save the settings. You will soon start seeing traffic on this application. You can drill down to ‘Hosts’ level only if this application appears in the ‘Top Applications’ report.
In the case described above, you will only be able to report if your custom application is listed in the Top Applications. However, if you want to be able to report all the time, create a Site representing your custom class P2P. The only thing that you must do when creating the Site is to include part of the class name that applies to both inbound and outbound traffic.
Using a site to represent a custom class on your Packetshaper seems odd, but it will work as expected.
