When protecting local network traffic by proxy forwarding to the Cloud Web Security service it is not necessary to send HTTP traffic over the encrypted tunnel, 8443. It is, however, strongly recommended to send HTTP traffic through the encrypted tunnel.
When local authentication is configured the default policy, from our documentation, will forward HTTP traffic over the encypted tunnel, 8443. The reason for this is that user and group information is added in the HTTP request header as base 64 encoded. Sending this information over the encrypted tunnel provides extra security.
