When you download the default proxy certificate (in the Management Console, select Statistics > Advanced > SSL > Download a proxy certificate as a CA certificate and click Default), it is downloaded in .cer format.
Mozilla Firefox does not accept certificates in .cer format. It accepts certificates only in .p12 format (also known as PKCS#12 format). Use an open SSL tool to convert the certificate from .cer to .pem, and then .pem to .p12.
An example of a format converter is located at http://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-certificate-tools.html; there are many more available. Search for one that best suits your needs.
