Why is images.google.com rated also as Open/Mixed Content in the WebFilter database?
This is causing trouble for customers who are denying the access to the category of "Open/Mixed Content".
On October 1, 2010 the Open/Mixed Content category was added to google.com/images. Subsequently, images.google.com was also categorized as Open/Mixed Content on October 8, 2010.
On November 22, 2010 at 17:00 UTC, all international variations of both images.google.com and google.com/images will have the Open/Mixed Content category added to them.
If you want to continue to allow your end users access to Google's images, you may want to consider enforcing the Google safe search policy as a way to reduce exposure to objectionable adult and pornographic material in Google image searches. You can view the Safesearch best practices guide found at https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH244705.html .
This rating modification was driven by Google's recent change in its handling of images which now masks the information needed for WebFilter to directly categorize thumbnail image search results on Google images. This change to Google mirrors how Symantec WebFilter currently categorizes other image search sites.
