Issue/Introduction

Why the ProxySG/Edge SWG and Cloud SWG send the header "X-Bluecoat-Via:"
You want to know why the proxy sends the header "X-Bluecoat-Via:"

Resolution

The purpose of the ProxySG/Edge SWG and Cloud SWG sending the X-Bluecoat-Via header is to detect loops in the network. If the proxy receives a request with the exact same X-Bluecoat-Via header that it generates on the server-side then it knows that the request was generated from itself and it will not propagate the request onward. Each proxy generates a different X-Bluecoat-Via header based on the following criteria.

Provides a 16 byte long unique identifier for the given Edge SWG and Cloud SWG device.  The identifier is generated using the ethernet address of the first network interface and is generated upon the first proxy outbound connection.

You can see this identifier using Advanced URL https://<ProxyIP>:8082/SYSINFO/Version with SGOS 7.3.x
