Issue/Introduction

When logging into the Security Analytics GUI, the one or both of the 10GB capture interfaces may be missing from the Capture Summary page.

Cause

Intel 10G cards only support specific SFP+ modules.  As of Dec 2014, the Dell 10G appliances use the Intel Ethernet Adapter X520 family adapter.  Confirm that the adapter doesn't support the SFP+ modules by looking at the /var/log/messages file and searching for "SFP" and looking for any messages about the SFP module being "unsupported".

Another place to look is in the dmesg log.  Run 'dmesg | grep SFP' and look for the following message:

ixgbe 0000:03:00.1: failed to load because an unsupported SFP+ or QSFP module type was detected

Resolution

Use Intel-brand SFP+ modules or contact Dell to confirm that the SFP+ modules are supported with the X520 cards.

NOTE:  Once the correct modules are acquired, there is no need to reinstall any software or reconfigure the Security Analytics appliance.  The modules will be recognized automatically and will be made available as capture interfaces.
