About Early Adopter System

The Early Adopter System (EAS) allows users to download pre-release Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) engines with updated protection technologies and features before they are generally available. This content is available from specialized LiveUpdate servers that are publicly available, but distinct from the standard public LiveUpdate. To join EAS, administrators need to configure part of all of their SEP environment to connect to the EAS LiveUpdate servers.

EAS Components

Component Description
Public LiveUpdate server The server from which you download for production engine content, located at: http://liveupdate.symantec.com
Early Adopter LiveUpdate server The Symantec LiveUpdate server where you download the pre-release engine content, located at: http://liveupdate.symantec.com/ET
LiveUpdate Administrator (LUA) An enterprise web application that manages Symantec updates on internal LiveUpdate servers.
Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) The management server that manages groups of Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) clients.
Managed SEP client A SEP client receiving content updates and policies from a SEPM
Unmanaged SEP client A SEP client receiving content updates from LiveUpdate or Third Party Management, whose policy is configured by the local administrator.

Configure clients to use EAS

You can configure your clients to receive EAS content from the following sources: All the SEPMs in their site, Public LiveUpdate servers, or an internal LiveUpdate server.

Note: In 14 RU1 MP1, and newer, the Use Symantec LiveUpdate server for prereleased content option was added to the Site Properties and LiveUpdate policy for the SEPM Site and managed client groups respectively.
