This document explains how to switch SEP from production to pre-release engine content for Early Adopter testing and vice versa. 

About Early Adopter System

The Early Adopter System (EAS) allows users to download pre-release Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) engines with updated protection technologies and features before they are generally available. This content is available from specialized LiveUpdate servers that are publicly available, but distinct from the standard public LiveUpdate. To join EAS, administrators need to configure part of all of their SEP environment to connect to the EAS LiveUpdate servers.

Configure clients to use EAS

You can configure your clients to receive EAS content from the following sources: All the SEPMs in their site, Public LiveUpdate servers, or an internal LiveUpdate server.

Note: In 14 RU1 MP1, and newer, the Use Symantec LiveUpdate server for prereleased content option was added to the Site Properties and LiveUpdate policy for the SEPM Site and managed client groups respectively.

SEPM  Site

Note: Only configure a SEPM site to receive updates via EAS if you wish all connected clients to receive EAS content. Configuring a site to update content through EAS affects all managers and clients in the site.

1. Log in to the SEPM console
2. Click Admin > Servers
3. Right-click Local Site, and click Edit Site Properties
4. On the LiveUpdate tab, under LiveUpdate Source Servers group, click Edit Source Servers
5. Click Use a specified internal LiveUpdate server and then click Add
6. In the Add LiveUpdate Server dialog box, complete the boxes with the following information:
   Server name: Symantec Early Adopter Server
   URL: http://liveupdate.symantec.com/ET
7. Click OK > OK > OK

Managed Client Group

1. Log in to the SEPM console
2. Click Clients and then create an Early Adopters group
3. Click the group and then click the Policies tab
4. Uncheck Inherit policies and settings from patent group...
   • After a moment the policies below will show [shared].
5. Click the Policies button at the left.
6. Click LiveUpdate, and then click Add a LiveUpdate Settings policy.
7. Name it like: EAS LiveUpdate Settings policy.
8. Click Server Settings.
9. Uncheck Use the default management server.
10. Click Use a specified internal LiveUpdate server and then click Add.
11. In the Add LiveUpdate server dialog box, complete the boxes with the following information:
    • Server name: Symantec EAS
    • Early Adopter Server URL: http://liveupdate.symantec.com/ET
12. Click OK and then click Schedule.
13. Uncheck the following:
    • LiveUpdate runs only if Virus and Spyware definitions are older than:
    • LiveUpdate runs only if the client is disconnected from the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager for more than:
14. Click OK.
15. Right-click the new policy and then click Assign.
16. Find the Early Adopters group in the tree and check the box next to it.
    • Note: If the group is expanded, the checkmark next to the Default location should also be checked.
17. Click Assign and then click Yes.

LUA

1. Log in to the LiveUpdate Administrator
2. Click Configure > Source Servers > Add
3. In the New Source Server window, enter the following information:
   • Server name: Symantec Early Adopter Server
   • Hostname/IP address: liveupdate.symantec.com
   • Root directory: ET
4. Select the HTTP protocol
5. Click OK
