Feature Request: a signed-only e-mail without attachment should not be displayed in Outlook with attachment icon when PGP services are running
Last Updated May 26, 2017
This KB is about a behavior of Outlook when Symantec Encryption Desktop is running and is used to verify signatures on incoming e-mails.
Currently, for signed-only e-mails (without encryption), regardless of the signature encoding - whether it's PGP/MIME or S/MIME - Outlook displays a binder icon (meaning that the e-mail has an attachment) even if the e-mail does not have any actual attachment. The recipient then thinks the e-mail has an attachment, which may be misleading as in reality the attachment is only the mail signature.
A Feature Request has been submitted to change the behavior of Encryption Desktop so that signed-only e-mails without actual attachments do not have the binder/attachment icon visible in Outlook.
Symantec Corporation is committed to product quality and satisfied customers. This Feature Request is currently being considered by Symantec Corporation to be addressed in a forthcoming version of the product.
