Issue/Introduction

LiveUpdate or Intelligent Updater does not update definitions when Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) for Linux installed together with Symantec Data Center Security (DCS)

SEP LiveUpdate or the Intelligent Updater appear to run OK but new definitions are not applied to SEP. The Intelligent Updater will populate the virusdefs/incoming folder, but SEP will not apply the new definitions even after restarting rtvscand.

Environment

Symantec Endpoint Protection for Linux

Symantec Data Center Security for Linux

Cause

Symantec DCS agent for Linux installs /etc/symantec/defutils.conf which interferes with SEP file /etc/Symantec.conf.

Resolution

Backing up /etc/symantec/defutils.conf and replacing it with contents of /etc/Symantec.conf may restore functionality to SEP LiveUpdate.

Symantec is aware of this issue and is investigating. This article will be updated as new information becomes available.
