Subject modification may make some Japanese message subjects unreadable
Last Updated December 19, 2017
When Messaging Gateway (SMG) takes the "Modify Subject" action on messages with a Japanese (SHIFT_JIS) character set, the message Subject line may not be readable in some mail clients or the Spam Quarantine following the subject modification.
When performing subject modification some versions of SMG will change the Subject encoding from "shift_jis" to "shift-jis" which may not be interpreted correctly by the user's mail client or in the Spam Quarantine interface.
This issue has been addressed with the SMG 10.6.4 release.
For earlier versions there is no workaround other than to not take the subject modification action in policies.
