Issue/Introduction

When using SSH in PuTTY to access Edge SWG (ProxySG) or Advanced Secure Gateway (ASG), you receive the following error:

  • PuTTY Fatal Error: expected key exchange group packet from server.

Resolution

  1. In PuTTY, in the left pane, navigate to Connection > SSH > Kex.
  2. Under Algorithm selection policy, select "Diffie-Hellman group exchange."
  3. Click Down. This moves "Diffie-Hellman group exchange' out of the first position, to change the algorithm that is used.
  4. Click Open.
