How to perform a factory reset on a Content Analysis System (CAS)

Issue/Introduction

The purpose of this article is to provide the steps required to perform a factory reset in a Content Analysis (CAS) device.

Resolution

There are two ways to perform the factory reset: 

Method 1 - Restore Factory Defaults via CLI:

  • Enter the following commands from a Serial Console connection:

>enable

#restore-defaults factory-defaults

  • You will be presented with the following message. Type y to continue with the process.

WARNING: The system will be marked for re-initialization. Booting a supported

system image will cause the system to re-initialize and result in loss of all

configuration and log information upon next boot. Furthermore, configuration

will have to be done while physically situated at the appliance. Proceed with

extreme caution. Continue with system re-initialization? (y/n)[n]:

  • The system will restart, and the box will begin the factory default process.

 

Method 2 - Reinitialize the Box

  • Restart the device.
  • During the boot process, press the space bar to halt the boot process. There will only be a few seconds to do this before the OS starts to boot.

  • When asked to enter a system number to boot from, enter the letter r

  • You will be presented with the following message. Type y to continue with the process.

WARNING: The system will be marked for re-initialization. Booting a supported

system image will cause the system to re-initialize and result in loss of all

configuration and log information upon next boot. Furthermore, configuration

will have to be done while physically situated at the appliance. Proceed with

extreme caution. Continue with system re-initialization? (y/n)[n]:

  • Choose the system to default to.

  • The box will then begin the factory default process.
