Issue/Introduction

The customer received a new license file with newer AUP expiration date. However, after applying the new file in SIM (Symantec Installation Manager), the expiration date doesn't show the right date for some of the Solutions.

In this example, the original expiration date was 5/1/2019 for licenses that were issued in 2017.

While applying the new license file, SIM shows that the new expiration date is now 5/1/2020 while reading the license file.

When you accept to install the new license file, SIM displays "Note that licenses must have a newer issue date to be applied over an existing license, and Extended Trial license will not be applied over Full licenses"

So the new expiration date still shows 5/1/2019 after applying the new license file.

Environment

ITMS 8.x

Cause

The customer had a set of licenses installed that were created with a previous licensing platform creation that didn’t let the new dates to be properly updated.

Resolution

Old set of licenses needs to be removed in order for the new file to be applied properly. Try the following:

  1. Download the new license file. Make sure you have received a new license file with all the right totals and expiration dates on it.
  2. The previous licenses need to be removed from the system. To do this, on your SMP server go to "C:\ProgramData\Symantec Shared\Licenses" and delete the files there (the licenses files will appear with a name like 'sym5adf4dd700.slf' for example).
  3. Open Task Scheduler>Task Scheduler Library on the server. Run "NS.Internal Licensing Refresh Item.{e8136a00-759c-4471-addc-b1d9e58cb5bd}"
  4. Open SIM and go to "Add/Update Licenses".
  5. All the licenses will appear as Expired or Trial.
  6. Apply the new license file.
  7. Counts and expiration dates will now display properly
