Issue/Introduction

The Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) is a chip on the S500, S400 and S200 series motherboards that supports the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) specification.
The BMC controls and monitors hardware-related information such as temperatures, voltages, fan speeds, etc.

Resolution

Upgrade the diagnostic system is available through the Command line and the Management Console.

The command-line interface (CLI) is accessible via two methods: serial console and SSH.

Serial Console

  1. Connect a serial cable to the serial port on the rear of your Content Analysis appliance.
  2. Launch a terminal program such as PuTTY, Tera TERM, or HyperTERM.
  3. Verify that you have configured the program with the following values to communicate with the unit's console serial port: 9600 bps, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, and hardware flow control.
  4. Press Enter three times to gain access to the Content Analysis CLI.
  5. When prompted, enter the username and password.

When you successfully connect, you will see the unit's command-line prompt, for example, CAS>.

SSH

Secure Shell access is enabled by default, and is accessible via port 22. You are free to choose any remote login utility that is available for your operating system, such as SecureCRT for Windows or OpenSSH for UNIX operating systems.

  1. Launch a remote login utility.
  2. Connect to the unit using SSH protocol and port 22.
  3. Enter the IP address of the Content Analysis appliance. When you connect successfully, you will be prompted to log in.
  4. Enter your username and password.

When you successfully connect, you will see the unit's command-line prompt, for example: CAS>.

Example
#diagnostic-systems load s400_diag_3_1_2_1.bcsi
#replace <image#>-Designate which image will be replaced next (if the system already has six installed images and you load another image). If you do not specify an image to be replaced, the oldest unlocked image on the system will be replaced.

Management Console

  1. In the Management Console, select System > Firmware.
  2. In the System Image Retrieval dialog, enter the URL path to the upgrade image. Downloads support HTTP and HTTPS servers with trusted certificates. If your server does not have a trusted certificate, use an internal server for the download.
  3. Click Retrieve Image and select the upgrade image as the default, then click Save Changes.
  4. Select Utilities > Services to complete the upgrade and reboot the appliance.

Note:
Hardware Diagnostics upgrade images can also be downloaded to a local workstation and then installed on the appliance. You can then click the Upload System Image button to upload the upgrade image to the appliance.
