How to Enable Diagnostic Logging for the Management Agent

Issue/Introduction

You want to enable diagnostic logging for the Symantec Management Agent (SMA).

Note: Enabling diagnostic logging for the SMA is the best practice for Site Servers.

Enabling the Diagnostics Mode in Symantec Management Agent

You can now add the diagnostics tools capabilities for the SMA by running from the command prompt "AeXNSAgent.exe /diags" or "AeXAgentUtil.exe /diags". It adds a new menu called "Diagnostics" in the Agent interface.

Note:
You must be logged in as an administrator to enable the Diagnostics mode in the Symantec Management Agent.

 

Run a command prompt as Administrator and go to:

[Install Drive]\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\.

Run command:
aexagentutil.exe /diags.

This will enable the diagnostics options on the banner menu (upper right below), and also will enable the “Edit Server URL” and “Import Profile” (mid left) options under Agent Settings tab.
