Symantec Endpoint Protection Cloud (SEPC) Small Business Edition (SBE) Upgrade fails with DING installer errors.
Systems with SEPC and Hewlitt-Packard products installed.
Here is an example from a number of error messages generated in different log sets that might be seen:
MSI (s) (40:10) [07:59:53:488]: Product: Symantec.cloud - Endpoint Protection -- Error 1606. Could not access network location \Hewlett-Packard\\.
Related MSI Error:
HEAgentUninstall.log returns MSI error code 1603 (stands for Fatal Error during installation).
Ding Installer Error Code:
Please note there are many associated DING error messages so only a few are listed for brevity.
DING exited with error 0x80070005
Some Hewlett-Packard products can insert a registry key into the following location: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall] "InstallLocation"="\\Hewlett-Packard\\\\"
During uninstall this value is being read by MSI which is trying to uninstall the PA from this location: MSI (s) (40:10) [07:59:53:144]: Note: 1: 2262 2: Signature 3: -2147287038 MSI (s) (40:10) [07:59:53:146]: PROPERTY CHANGE: Adding PAINSTALLDIR property. Its value is '\Hewlett-Packard\\'.
This location doesn't exist so the install fails: MSI (s) (40:10) [07:59:53:488]: Product: Symantec.cloud - Endpoint Protection -- Error 1606. Could not access network location \Hewlett-Packard\\.
To resolve this issue remove the HP registry key entry. Please be sure to back up any registry keys before removal in case of failure.
