Data Loss Prevention Enforce

Issue/Introduction

Symantec Data Loss Prevention

Unable to apply the hotfix using the Windows PowerShell script.
Tried the steps in the readme file and tried running the script through the PowerShell console.
The install logs show nothing but backing up the files to be replaced.
The PowerShell logs do show many errors about not being able to stop services.

The PowerShell logs show the following error for all the DLP services:

Stop-Service : Service 'Symantec DLP Notifier (SymantecDLPNotifier)' cannot be stopped due to the following error: Cannot open SymantecDLPNotifier service on computer

Environment

DLP
Windows Server 2012 R2

Cause

Insufficient privileges to stop services when running the installer under the logged in user even though that user has admin rights.

Resolution

Preferred method:

Log into the server as Administrator and run the PowerShell script as directed in the readme.

If unable to log into the server as Administrator:

  1. Right click the PowerShell exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  2. Run the installer script in the Administrator PowerShell console.
