Using DB-restore on the SMG when network bandwidth is low or no ftp is available to host the restore file.
Last Updated May 17, 2019
There's a necessity to restore an SMG backup and the restore is interrupted or no FTP is avaialble to host the restore file.
Network is unsuitable for large file transfer
Login to the SMG command line using putty or another SSH tool. Use the admin account.
Once logged in then run the command "set-support" with no inverted commas of course, then enter a password for the support account.
Download winscp, or a similar tool to copy files up to the SMG.
Login to the SMG using winscp with the support account, then copy your backup to /tmp directory.
Restore the backup from the /tmp directory: db-restore scp://support@localhost/tmp/<backupfile>, there will be a prompt to enter the support password.
Restore will run, please wait as this can take a while and the system will sit on a blinking cursor appearing not to do anything, backups are different sizes, once the cursor is blinking with no errors it will eventually finish.
