Agents are not being assigned to the correct agent group based on logged in user

In the Enforce console under System | Agents | Agent Groups, you have configured an agent group based on the User Attribute, Logged in User criteria but you notice that, although a configured user is logged in and even after the agent is restarted, the machine is not being assigned to the specified group.
You have checked for conflicting group criteria and found none
You have verified that the the configuration has been received on the endpoint machine and that the agent has reported the user correct machine details to the console:
The wrong syntax is being used in the user list.
The user names must each be entered on their own (not as domain\user, or name@domain syntax)
The entries must contain one user name per line with no comma or other characters as a separator
